Biographical / Historical

Chico State's Cross-Cultural Leadership Center (CCLC) was established in September 2007 under Director Charles "CC" Carter. The CCLC welcomes students of all ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities under three core principles: respect, connect, and affirm. The CCLC promotes Six Pillars of Success: Internpersonal Relationships, Community Building, Identity Exploration, Cultural Compentence, Transformational Leadership, and Advocacy.

The Center provides dozens of programs for students, staff, and faculty. Year-round programs include El Centro: Latinx Resource Center, Cultural Heritage Celebration Programs, Intentional Interactions, the Billie Jackson Library for the Culture, The League, Men of CHICO, NASPA Undergraduate Fellow Program, and CCLC Explores: Shades of Nature. Fall programs include Latinè Heritage Month Events, LGBTQ+ History Month Event, the Diversity Summit, Native American Heritage Month Events, Wildcat Vibe, and Posada Navideña. Spring programs include Black History Month Events, Hmong Legacy, Women's History Month Events, AAPI Month Events, and Holi Celebration.

CCLC's mission: "The Cross-Cultural Leadership Center values and respects the richness and understanding that diversity brings. The Center exists to create an environment in which all students, regardless of their ethnicity, culture, or differences, feel respected, connected, and affirmed. Through a holistic approach of leadership development, cultural awareness, community education, and the creation of a constructive social change, we aspire to create transformational opportunities between and for all people that fosters community engagement."

In 2024, the CCLC opened three cultural resource centers: Asian Pacific Islander and Desi American Resource Center; Black Resource Center; and El Centro: Latinx Resource Center.
