The collection covers the investment and assay reports of the Surcease Mine detailing the profitability of the mine, the amount of ore left in the mine and the conditions of the mine. Included are correspondence between the mine operators and investors and a prospectus detailing the advantages of the William Ranch Mine in Toulumne County.

The Surcease Mine is located in Butte County north of Oroville. It was mined extensively for its gold and was considered a good investment by the engineers who inspected the mine.
