Biographical / Historical

Wong Gee (1871-1952) was a migrant Chinese laborer who worked for 60 years at the Morehead family ranch. Gee was born in Marysville California, and, at 15, began working as a laborer, the family's cook, and caretake of much of the ranch. He had three children; two boys, Hing and Louie, and one unnamed daughter. While in the United States, Wong kept in close contact with his family in China. The Morehead children considered Wong a parental figure, and he managed the much of the family affairs, including war rations during World War II. In 1947, at age 76, Gee returned to China. In 1952, Wong Gee dies in Kowloon, China.
