Scope and Contents note
Collection contains materials assembled by the History Committee of The Butte Meadows-Jonesville Community Association for the book A Small Corner of the West. The collection consists of research files and subject folders, some topographic, and plat maps, cabin histories as recorded by occupants in the early 1990s, oral histories captured on audio tapes and video tapes, as well as some transcriptions of the audio recordings. The photographs have been removed, digitized, and are available on Chico Digital Collections. Some maps have been removed and are shelved throughout the Map Collection.

Biographical/ Historical Note
The Butte Meadows- Jonesville Community Association Collection represents an accumulation of primary and secondary source research, used by the BMJCA history committee to compile the book A Small Corner of The West. Published in 1998, the book covers the late 19th Century and the 20th Century of the history of the Northern California region of Butte Meadows, Chico Meadows, and Jonesville. The collection documents the development of forestry and logging, as well as other pioneer use of the land, like cattle drives in the area. The BMJCA historical committee gathered oral histories from elder community members about the historical cabins located in the area, as well as the pioneer families who settled and developed the area.

The Properties are organized alphabetically by location. The Cabin Histories are organized chronologically, then alphabetically. The History Committee’s papers are organized chronologically. The Transcriptions and Recollections (boxes 6 and 7) and the Audio tape recordings (boxes 9 through 16) are organized alphabetically by storyteller’s last name. The photographs have been removed from the collection, digitized, and made accessible through Chico Digital Collections.
