Mildred Forester Papers
Scope and Contents
Included in this collection are drafts of Mildred Forester’s book on the lost city of Hamilton entitled: The Feather River Bust and draft of Roy Pence’s book on George Lovelock entitled Square Nail Town Smith. Also included is a draft of a book on Peter Lassen written by his grandson Rene Lassen entitled Life of the American Pioneer. Research done for both of these books is included. Additional research on the early history of Paradise and Oroville is also included. In this collection are also sketches of historical dresses Mildred Forester made herself. The bulk dates pertaining to Oroville and Paradise are 1850-1905. The bulk dates pertaining to the town of Hamilton are 1850-1853. And the bulk dates pertaining to George Lovelock in 1862-1895.

Biographical / Historical
Mildred Viola Wilson Forester, local historian, author, seamstress, , wife and mother. She was born in Ballston, Oregon in 1913. She married Hubert Forester in Alameda, CA 1930. They had four children. She was involved in Colman Museum and Gold Nugget Museum. She also sewed historical costumes for many events including Gold Nugget Days in Paradise, CA. She also made costumes for the Paradise Light Opera Company. She presented history programs at the Centerville Recreation and Historical Association. Her publications include Nuggets of Gold-Rush History, Tailings of Butte Creek Canyons , Feather River Bust: A History of the Eviction of Hamilton, Butte County’s First Seat of Government & the History of George Lovelock, Namesake of Two Towns and a County Seat . She studied the city of Paradise’s origins in Roots of Paradise. She contributed articles to the Dogtown Territorial and Butte County Historical Society’s Diggins. She died in 2001.
