Scope and Contents

Papers include correspondence, research notes, newsletters, oral histories, newspaper clippings, and a scrapbook, mainly pertaining to Colusi County (later Colusa County). Also in this collection are newsletters and journals pertaining to the Colusi Historical Society. Other people included in the collection are Frank Reager, first president of the Wagon Wheels, Charles Lambert a founding member of the Wagon Wheels, and Dr Etta Lund a founding member of the Colusi Historical Society. Dates including Glenn county are 1851-1877 and dates including Coulsi Historical society and the Wagon Wheels are 1950-1973.

Biographical / Historical

Thelma “Timmy” Buckley White (1926-2002), was teacher and local historian. She is a third generation Californian. Her grandparents came by wagon train from Missouri in the 1850s. She attended the Armstrong School of Business Administration and later, UC Davis. She met her husband Wilbur White while attending UC Davis. They settled in Ord Bend, Glenn County and raised five children, Kim, Steve, Robin, Judi, and Jed. Later in her life, Thelma received her teaching credential from Chico State. With an interest in local history led her to write 63 articles for the Willows Journal which later turned into the Glenn County Sketchbook.

She was also involved in Association for Northern California Historical Research-ANCHR. She served as the first editor of Wagon Wheels, Colusi County’s historical journal for ten years.

Originally processed by Mary Ellen Bailey as the Thelma White Collection MSS 212. Mark Ohlmann and Pameal Nett Kruger divided the collection into the Thelma White Papers MSS 348 and Jacinto and Glenn Ranch Records MSS 212.
