The Women's Center was established in 1971 to support Chico State women students pursuing higher education. GSEC was opened in 2011 in an effort to further promote the human rights and equal representation of marginalized students on Chico State's campus, as an expansion of the Women's Center. The program was administered through the Chico State Associated Students enterprise.
